Prince prefers American life

January 4, 1948

Prince Friedrich Josias of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha prefers to be "plain Mr. Coburg," according to the Los Angles Times.

The 27-year-old prince, youngest son of the Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, arrived earlier today in Los Angeles from Stockholm aboard the Johnson Line's motor ship, Paraguay.

Prince Friedrich Josias, described as a bachelor, made his declaration shortly after his arrival.   He is the younger brother of Princess Sibylla of Sweden, the widow of Hereditary Prince Gustaf Adolf, who was killed in a plane crash one year ago.

He is "bound for San Francisco" where he will begin to work for the Grace Lines to "learn the shipping business".  But his first "order of business" will be to start the process for American citizenship.  He added that he hoped to be known as "just plain Mr. Coburg."
