Day 6 Victoriadagen Part 1: Press conference, Solliden and cake

Up early on July 14 at the hotel.  The Drotting Victoria serves a sumptuous buffet breakfast ... one eats well in Sweden.   I joined my new friend, Sara Ericsson, who works for Kungliga Magasinet,  for breakfast.  We don't have a lot of time as we need to get to the Strand Hotel in Borgholm for the press conference prior to the Victoriadagen concert that night.

We are driven to the hotel and join other members of the press for a few meetings.  The first was with Jenny Rissveds, the 23-year-old Swedish mountain biker who won a Gold Medal last year in Rio.  She is the recipient of the 2017 Victoria Day award (presented that night at the concert.)

Outside the hotel (and kept at bay by the police) were a growing number of screaming teenagers (all girls) due to the presence of Norwegian pop stars, 15-year-old twins, Martinus and Marcus.   Think Justin Bieber.

We got to take photos of them and with them.   After all this excitement -- and watching some of the Stockholm celebrations on the hotel TV, it was back to the Drottning Victoria, a change to more comfortable shoes, and a trip to Solliden.    Back to the hotel again for a celebration of Victoria's birthday with a yummy cake -- and time to change for the concert.

One had to get a selfie ... no idea who these guys are, but I am told that they are big in the Nordic countries.
