A Bucharest newspaper is reporting the betrothal of Grand Duke Kirill, eldest son of Grand Duke Wladimir, to the divorced Grand Duchess of Hesse and By Rhine, according to a New York Times dispatch from Vienna.

The Grand Duchess was born Princess Victoria Melita of Edinburgh, second daughter of the late Duke of Edinburgh (Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha).  The Grand Duchess was divorced from her husband, Ernst Ludwig, Grand Duke of Hesse and By Rhine, by the High Court  due to her "lively behavior."   She would, when "displeased" throw "table things or bric-a-brac at her husband."

The Grand Duchess lives with her mother, the Dowager Duchess of Edinburgh and Saxe-Coburg and Gotha in Coburg.   The Dowager Grand Duchess was born Grand Duchess Marie Alexandrovna of Russia.

Victoria Melita and her first husband are first cousins.  She also shares a first cousin relationship with Grand Duke Kirill.
