Tiara-boom-de-ay

March 4, 1893

Seriously, tiara-boom-de-ay is how the Chicago Daily Tribune described a wedding gift to Princess Margarete of Prussia.  The Princess, the youngest sister of Kaiser Wilhelm II, is engaged to marry Prince Friedrich Karl of Hesse.

Queen Margherita of Italy, who is Margarete's godmother, has given the bride-to-be a "tiara of diamonds said to be worth not less than $50,000."

Tiara-boom-de-ay indeed!
